A matatu driver died while undergoing treatment at the Homa Bay Referral Hospital after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and rolled several times at Sofia trading centre on Homa Bay-Rongo road.
The Tuesday evening accident happened when the driver identified as Odhiambo Owocha tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Other passengers in the vehicle got injuries and are currently being treated at the Homa Bay referral Hospital.
Witnesses said the vehicle was being driven at a high speed before the accident happened. “The area has clearly indicated speed limit signs. The driver must have ignored the signs and exceeded the limit,” said a witness.
Homa Bay OCPD Esau Ochorokodi said they are conducting investigations into what led to the accident. “The vehicle is at Homa Bay police station and is currently being inspected.
