A police officer perished while fifteen others were seriously injured after the driver of the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) they were travelling in lost control along Elwak-Kutulo road in Mandera County on Monday late afternoon.
Preliminary police findings show the accident could have been occasioned by heavy downpour and poor visibility.
“The incident occurred late Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, we lost one officer but the rest are out of danger,” a senior officer said.
Elwak-Kutulo is a high risk route owing to numerous Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) attacks staged by the Al Shabaab militants although police patrol has been significantly enhanced.

However, under the command of Northern Kenya Regional Commissioner Ambassador Mohamud Saleh, ground and aerial police patrols have pushed away the insurgents.
The injured officers were rushed to Mandera Hospital.
