At least 13 people were today evening crashed to death and over 20 others badly injured in a bloodbath accident involving a truck, minibus, matatu and a personal car near Roasters on Thika Superhighway.

The accident took place after a 42-seater Nairobi bound bus hit a truck carrying construction materials from the rear after the latter had a front tyre burst.

The bus that had 37 passengers on board veered off to the opposite lane and flew over the rail guards before smashing onto an oncoming Nanyuki bound 14-seater matatu.

“We have collected 10 bodies at the scene. Over 25 others, some in critical condition, have been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital and Neema Hospital,” Samson Onsanjo, one of the rescuers said.

Kasarani Division Traffic boss Charles Mwangangi said they were reconciling the figures with the hospital to establish the actual number of fatalities.

The death toll is feared to rise.
